Barnet Pavao-Zuckerman, Ph.D.

Dr. Barnet Pavao-Zuckerman is Associate Curator of Zooarchaeology in the Arizona State Museum with a joint appointment as Associate Professor of Anthropology in the School of Anthropology. Dr. Pavao was born and raised in small-town upstate New York. She received her BA from Binghamton University in 1996 under the direction of Dr. Peter W. Stahl, and her Ph.D. from the University of Georgia in 2001 under the direction of Dr. Elizabeth J. Reitz. She began her present position at the University of Arizona in August 2002. Her research interests include zooarchaeology, historical archaeology, taphonomy, and conservation applications of zooarchaeology. Dr. Pavao’s main regions of interest are the Southeast and Southwest U.S. Her research addresses the experiences of Native Americans following the arrival of Europeans, in particular, the impact that the introduction of Eurasian domesticated animals had on Native American subsistence and economic systems.
