Unit Three: Management of Instructional Technologies; Evaluation of and with Technologies in Education

Goal:

You will learn the concepts and criteria in evaluating the use of technology in education, as well as being able to use technology as a means of evaluation.

Objectives:

When you have finished this unit, you will be able to

1. Recognize and define the elements of the management and evaluation of technology.
2. Identify options in using technology to meet the criteria of an objective.
3. Evaluate the usefulness of technology to a teaching situation.
4. Determine the appropriateness of technology in a given situation.
5. Recognize and define the various options in using technology for evaluating learning.
6. Use evaluation tools for analysis.
7. Select the appropriate technological tools to evaluate a classroom situation.

Activities and Assignments:

Complete each of the activities and assignments in the order they are given below.

Lesson 1:

Evaluation of the use of technology

1. Read Chapter 11 in the textbook which is on reserve in the main library
2. Complete the Chapter 11 Exercise.
3. Submit a paragraph or two to Caucus describing a learning situation in which you have used a certain kind of technology and evaluate your experience of its usefulness.
4. Submit a paragraph or two to Caucus describing a learning situation in which you will use a certain kind of technology in the future and predict why you think it will be successful.

Lesson 2:

Evaluation by using technology

1. Read Chapter 12 in the textbook which is on reserve in the main library
2. Complete the Chapter 12 Exercise
3. Determine how you would evaluate a students' learning of the content of computer based courseware or application program (word processor,etc.). Submit your plan to the instructor.

7. Research the Web and Construe for articles on evalution of the use of technology in learning. Choose an article that expands or critiques a concept from Chapter 12 in the textbook(which is on reserve in the main Library) and write a 1 page review of the article. Submit the review to the instructor.
8. Select some tools for evaluating the classroom and describe how to implement its use. Submit the review to the instructor.
