Reporting on the Apple Classrooms of Tomorrow (ACOT), begun in 1985, the authors describe the research and identify five stages of computer usage in the classroom: entry; adoption; adaptation; appropriation; and invention. This article is a fine description of the evolution teachers must go through as they incorporate computers in the classroom, of its benefits and stumbling blocks.
