Educational Reform

Chad Dupuis

Historically, reform has proven itself to be the most challenging of goals. Due to the conflicting visions, beliefs, theories and practices this becomes unequivocally true with educational reform. While many agents have attempted to change education over the years, few have been successful. Even the new technologies, purported by many to be the "driving force" behind reform, have not had the impact that many people felt they would. Along with the unsuccessful utilization of new educational technologies and practices has been a continuing slide in relevancy of our curriculum. While our society has remained in a state of continual change our educational content has remained stagnant. In fact, very little has changed in our curriculum, modes of delivery and styles of assessment since the early 1900's. This document plans to examine our inability to reform, new societal demands, and the role of people, practices and technologies in our educational system.
