Jacullo-Noto, J. (1992). An urban school/liberal arts college partnership for teacher development. Journal of Teacher Education, 43, 278-282.
Jacullo-Noto describes the successful evolution of a collaborative effort
between the Technology Institute, launched from Dartmouth College with
anonymous funding, and teachers from urban schools to integrate computers
into classroom instruction. The evolution included the installation of
staff as connections for the schools involved to the institute, followup
programs, direct support to encourage school administrators to provide
funding for equipment and software. Initial results indicated that teachers
became more confident in their abilities, more enthusiasic in teaching, more
interested in pursuing professional growth opportunities, and more willing
to collaborate and interact with colleagues. At the same time teachers
reported that students had increased interest, attendance, and participation
in class. The positive results were attributed to collaboration, support,
flexibility, and emphasis on experimentation.
