Senge, P. M. (1990). The Fifth Discipline: The Art and Practice of the Learning Orginization. New York: Currency Doubleday.
This book was a major cornerstone for my development during this project. It is extremely content heavy. I am still in the process of trying to assimilate the information and theses prescribed. Much of the structure described seems intuitively correct and obvious, yet time and again it is demonstrated that the intuitive appeal is not enough to instuitute change. One of the (many) major points was that certain critical components are necessary before an innovation can become an institution. An example was the airplane components necessary for airplanes to become successful as commercial transportation. It was this point that led me to examine school district WWW pages for common components. Although the book is directed at the business environment, I believe it has much to offer educational organizations, particularly in the context of "learning" organizations.
