Class Notes

Today's purpose of the class was to familiarize
ourselves with the library and to learn how to find a source of reference to
aid us with Resource Report 2 and future assignments.
~First thing~ we walked over to the "Information Commins which is part
of the library in the ILC, and we were introduced to the *librarian who works
with women's studies* *( a very important source of help---her name, Ruth Dickstein,
and her email address and phone number appear in the "teaching team"
part of this web site)*
~Second~ We were introduced to the library's subscribed search site, Sabio Information
Gateway, and we paired up to begin our hunt!
The first part of the search was to use the Sabio Information Gateway to find
a book which pertained to a topic we were assigned a and then an article which
related to a different topic. This familiarized ourselves with the different
ways to search for a research piece.
*important*: Sabio Information Gateway has a Women's Studies Encyclopedia. which
is helpful when finding a book. There is also a Index to Articles which helps
when searching for a scholarly article. Once you are in the Index to Articles,
you need to clikc on "Academic Search Elite"
The next thing we learned was how to find this reference piece. We were asked
to indicate the call numbers of the pieces, the authors, the date of publication,
the status of the piece (whether the book is checked in or not), and the location
of the piece.
The call number is very important when finding your piece.
Next my partner and i looked at the Bookstack Guide to find out what floor our
piece is on. Doing this I learned how HUGE this library really is! We found
our book with the help of the How to Read Call Numbers sheet given to us. We
brought the book to a precepter and were awarded with candy:)
*VERY IMPORTANT*: If you were not here, be sure to pick up a copy of the information sheets given to us... THEY ARE VERY HELPFUL!!!!!
