Full Monty
A little background:
- The story takes place in the midlands of England.
- 20 years ago there was a booming economy but in many areas there was still
a 60% unemployment rate in males.
- In England class is very important. There is the working class and the middle
class. In many cases you can distinguish between to two classes with the individuals
accent.
Characters:
- Gary (otherwise known as Gaz): He is divorced from his wife who is now remarried
or involved with a man. He has a son. He would do anything to get custody of
his son. He is an unemployed working class man, probably a factory worker.
- Nathan (otherwise known as Nathe): He is the son of Gary who lives with his
mother and newly involved man. He loves his father but is embarrassed by how
he lives and the things he does.
- Dave: He is Garys brother (or at least a good friend; Nathan calls him
uncle Dave). He is married to Jean. He is an unemployed working class man, probably
a factory worker. He is very insecure with himself.
- Aunt Jean: The wife of Dave. She enjoys going to the male strip club (Chippendales).
She loves her husband even though he has become very insecure with himself.
- Gerald: A man Gaz and Dave know form the Jobclub. He has been unemployed for
six months, but his wife believes he has a job. He is a very upset man and does
not like many people.
- Lomper: He tried to commit suicide in the beginning of the movie. Dave and
Gaz save him. He works as a security guard. He has an ill mother at home.
- Horse: About a 50 year old man. Tries out to be a stripper with them. He is
called Horse for one reason only.
- Muscle man: He is a man with very big muscles and other large things. He also
tries out to be a stripper.
The Movie:
- The movie starts out in a steel mill twenty years back, when the economy was
booming in England. It quickly moves to the present where unemployment is more
common than having a job.
- Gaz and Dave have a loving relationship, yet they are quite smart asses to
each other. Nathan, the son of Gaz, hangs around Gaz and Dave for most of the
movie. The three of them walk around England. The first scene shows the three
males walking by a male strip club.
- Gaz comes up with the idea of them becoming strippers to make money.
- Dave needs money to support his wife Jane who spends most of her spare time
at the male strip club.
- Dave is very insecure with himself and believes his wife would rather be with
other men over him. She continuously reassures him that she loves him and he
is the only man for her.
- Gaz needs money so he can get custody of his son and be able to see him. His
ex-wife is threatening him with seeing their son, unless he gets a job.
- Gaz and Nathan do not have a normal father son relationship. Gaz uses language
that should not be used in front of his son and Nathan steels with his dad and
sneaks into the male strip club for his dad. Nathan is often embarrassed by
the things Gaz does.
- Gaz and Dave are part of a jobclub with Gerald. Gerald seems as if he is a
higher class than they are. They are all constantly fighting.
- Lomper comes into the movie because he is trying to kill himself in his car
and Gaz and Dave run by and stops him. They all become immediate friends. He
has a sick mother at home and works as a security guard. He joins them in their
mission to become male strippers to make money.
- Gerald and his wife take dance classes and Dave, Gaz, Lomper, and Nathan accidentally
run into him at a practice. The men try to convince Gerald to teach them how
to dance so they can become male stripper. He refuses.
- Geralds wife believes hat their financial situation is good and Gerald
has a job. Without his wife knowing he goes on a job interview. Gaz and Dave
ruin his interview so he does not get the job. He is desperate so finally agrees
to teach them how to dance.
- The men hold an interview process to find other male dancers. Nathan is in
control of the music while the other men judge. Gaz, Dave, Lomper, and Gerald
are the judges. They find two men that work, Horse who is 50 year old man and
a very young muscle man with a big you know what. The last scene he saw,
the men were at Geralds house and Gaz decides they all need to get naked
to get comfortable with their bodies. As the men are all standing there in their
underwear, the doorbell rings.
