This transcription of Aemilia Lanyer's Salve Deus Rex Judaeorum was made from STC 15227.5, a version containing all eleven (known) prefatory poems. It has the five-line publisher's imprint, but corrects a typesetting error in "Salve Deus Rex Judaeorum" found in STC 15227, a version that also has the five-line imprint. The corrected portions of the two versions also differ in spelling, indicating that a different typesetter reset that portion. The text here is entered using HTML, a format that doesn't allow for reproduction of certain textual elements such as marginal half titles. We have instead entered those preceding the stanza they accompany in the original. We have retained original spelling except for the long S and have also reproduced italic and roman scripts as in the text. We have included line numbers and have also indicated folios. Those numbers come, as it were, at the bottom of the page, where they come in the book. Thus the first four stanzas of "To the Queenes Most Excellent Majesty" are on folio a3. Please report any errors you discover in this online version.
We are in the process of annotating Lanyer's poems, with particular reference to the Bible and the Book of Common Prayer. At present, the annotations for "To the Lady Elizabeths Grace" are the only ones available online.
