Suffragists, Sistahs, and Riot Grrrls

Quizzes

Description: There will be a quiz almost every week of class, usually at the beginning of class. The quizzes will typically consist of 3 questions asking for short paragraph answers. Some questions will ask for main ideas, some for analysis, some for thinking with the ideas in the reading. You will take the quiz first individually and then (the same quiz) with your group. You will have approximately 10 minutes to write each portion (individual and group) of the quiz. Note that you cannot make up a quiz that you have missed; if you know you will be gone from class, you may make arrangements ahead of time to take the quiz in advance. I will drop your lowest quiz score at the end of the semester to allow for emergencies. It is wise to save that option for a real emergency.

Purpose: Writing the quiz will help you focus on the main ideas of a reading or set of readings. Taking the quiz with your group gives you another way to learn the material--through discussion.

Method: To study for the quizzes, read assigned material, looking for the main ideas, thesis, and significant examples in the article.

Evaluation: To receive full credit on the quiz, you must answer all three questions correctly both individually and again with your group.  At the end of the semester, I will drop your lowest quiz score when I calculate grades.
