Here are detailed instructions for downloading the plug-in: You might want to PRINT THIS PAGE to use as a guide: 1. Go to www.apple.com/quicktime/download. 2. Fill in the form on the right hand side of the screen (email address, first & last name, and operating system). Then click on the "Download Quicktime" button at the bottom of the form. 3. Follow the "next" and "agree" prompts for the next few screens. 4. When you get to the "Destination Directory" screen, notice that the default is C:\Program Files\Quicktime. This is the best option. Check the space required and the space available listed under "Destination Directory" to make sure you have enough room. If your C drive is too full, then move some of your personal files to the D drive in order to make room. You can also compress your C drive. However, don't install Quicktime on your D drive because the Quicktime plug-in must be on the same drive as the browser files (Netscape and Internet Explorer) in order to work. When you are asked to choose a version of the plug-in, minimum is what you need to play the audio/video files for this class. I recommend choosing minimum because it takes 4.3 MB, while recommended takes 7.2 MB. 5. Follow the "next" and agreement prompts for the next few screens. NOTE: Make sure you choose to install the plug-in to both Netscape and IE if you have both browsers on your computer. 6. For the "Registration" prompt, just type your name under "Registered To:" and click "next." 7. The next prompt instructs you to make sure your internet connection is active before proceeding. If it is, then click "continue." 8. The next step involves your computer's server connecting to the Apple Public Server and downloading the necessary files. 9. After the downloading process is complete, locate the file "Quicktime Installer" on your computer and then double-click on the file to begin installation. The file is probably on your desktop. If not, then check your C drive. You can always use the Find command (on the start menu for pcs or the apple menu for macs). This step may take a while depending on how fast or slow your computer is. 10. Now check your internet plug-in. Go to www.apple.com/quicktime and click on the "Movie Trailers" icon. Follow the prompts and try to view on of the movie clips. You can also go to the Homework 1 page and try the sound clips. NOTE: There are two campus computer labs that have the plug-in and headphones for you to view this website's media: The Social & Behavioral Science Instructional Computing Lab (2nd floor of Social Sciences) and the Multi-Media/Visual Lab (2nd floor of CCIT). Do not ever download software onto a campus computer! |
