Oral Presentations for Embryology

The assignment for the week will be a group project that will entail a 15-minute presentation in front of the class on a selected topic in embryology. The oral report will be graded by the TA and by peers for presentation skills, accuracy of content and references utilized.

Topics should center on factors or related topics affecting one of the following:
1) Gametogenesis
2) Fertilization
3) Cleavage
4) Gastrulation
5) Neurulation
6) Organogenesis
7) Pattern Formation

Each person will choose two other members to form groups of three. Each group member is expected to contribute equally to the presentation, since each member will receive the same grade. Make sure to practice the presentation prior to actually presenting it in front of the classroom, and dress for success.

For this presentation, two primary references must be used from a peer-reviewed journal in which original research was conducted, and this research must be relevant to the presentation. Photocopies of these references must be provided to the TA. Two secondary references must be used as accessory aids to the original articles.

Grading Criteria will be evaluated by:

Presentation Skills (20%) Overhead Materials/Visual Aids
Time Limits (12-13 minutes presentation, 2-3 minutes questions)
Presentation Style/Clear/Addressing the Audience/Smiling 1.5 - 2.5:
Content (60%) Presentation and Accuracy of Background Information
Relationship to Group Topic
Detailed Synopsis of Findings 4.0 - 7.5:
References (20%) Photocopy of Two Primary Sources
Two Secondary Sources 1.5 - 2.5:

This form will be provided to all students for each group presentation. Half of your points will be earned by the average of your peer evaluations and half will be earned by my evaluation. For example, if the average of your peer evaluations is 12.5 (maximum points possible) and my evaluation is 11.0, then your total is 23.5 out of 25 points possible, or 94%.
