The Journal Reflections Summary assignment is due on 10/5/00. It should consist of approximately one single-spaced, typed page - minimum 1/2 page, maximum 2 pages - with 1" margins, a 12-point, normal font like this one (Times New Roman), white paper, no scents, proofread and spell checked. Put your name, the due date, "Journal Reflections Summary" and "Comm 114" on the top line.
The content of your paper should describe one or more journal reflections you have done in response to the textbook or class, indicating
Note that you are not required to include any personal information about the content of what you wrote in your journal.
Grading will be based overall on how much your writing shows that you have wrestled with the class materials in your own life. This includes (a) choosing a meaningful topic to journal on and report, (b) having a meaningful understanding of why that topic is important in your life, (c) describing in sufficient detail how you tried to address this topic and the results when you did, (d) being able to pull "lessons learned" from your experience, and (e) planning further learning. Your writing need not be fancy, but it should be grammatically correct, and, of course, it needs to express what you meant to say!
If you had one extensive and particularly meaningful experience, you might write your whole summary about that one journal entry. Or, you can include several (the maximum is probably 3-4) journal entries, each of which taught you something different. Neither of these alternatives is better than the other. What matters is the substantialness of your interaction with the material. You should not report on a random entry, but rather choose entries to summarize that brought you new understanding of yourself, people around you, and/or the course material. If none of your journal entries do this, you need to do more journal entries! Come to office hours if you need help.
