Listener

attends to details & concepts, passive mode

Writer synthesize material through writing
Independent researcher self directed, discipline based library or survey research, possibly self directed and self motivated
Laboratory researcher devise and set up experiments in controlled settings - > reproducible, reduced variables
Researcher feel that this overlaps with 3 and 4 -> but could be within well defined constraints of a discipline
Team member learn as a member of a team, group learning
Case Study Worker somebody who gathers or harvests from case studies, ethnographer
Apprentice learn through demonstration under direction of an expert
Context Explorer/ Sleuth tranfer concepts to new situations
Speaker learn through teaching
Builder methodological construct a whole, synthesizing, possibly starting at one side
   

Instructor Roles

 
Lecturer speak in front of large classes
Reviewer critically evaluate work of others
Guide listen, promote reflection, direct subtly
Scientist systematic and measure evaluation of well defined questions
Consultant answer one or two things with air of an expert
Scholar answer questions, direct thought
Resource field leader, with well developed connections to literatrure and leading thinkers
Expert history of creating new knowledge, knows an area or field better than many others

Speaker more distant than lecturer, able to speak generally about a topic that may or may not be obviously related to a topic
Architect design or build a structure of data, information, etc, for students to work
