Note 1: Geographic definitions

Great Britain - Consists of England, Scotland, and Wales. The term is often used as a synonym for the United Kingdom, which also includes Northern Ireland and a number of offshore islands.

United Kingdom - Consists of four geographic and historical parts--England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The United Kingdom makes up most of the British Isles--the geographic term for the group of islands.

British Isles - Consists of two main islands, Great Britain and Ireland, and numerous smaller islands
