Students of English 307/308 in Profcomm
Welcome to the University of Arizona's Professional Communication courses
online. These courses and resources have been developed in collaboration with
community partners, curriculum development specialists, instructors, and students
in order to provide you with an innovative learning experience in professional
communication. In this course, you will have the opportunity to
- learn about professional communication--the importance of situational analysis, the function of various forms of communication, and the implications of communicating in a professional setting;
- learn to work and learn with others in nontraditional, distributed online settings;
- work in a professionally
collaborative team to complete a project from design, proposal, and presentation;
- learn to work with and analyze communication technologies; and
- build a resume and
job application packet.
Your instructor will have customized this curriculum, and you will have the opportunity to provide feedback and contribute your own work to this site.
The Profcomm site is built around an organization that has been created for these courses--The Center for Professional Communication (Profcomm or The Center). As a website, the Profcomm site includes reference and resource materials, guidelines for professional communication, and links to a highly interactive learning environment where you will actually be doing much of your learning. The focus of the course content is the analysis of professional communication with an emphasis on technology. Courses offered through Profcomm can utilize an online conferencing software client, Workplace to explore and analyze professional communication strategies in new technologies.
The mission of the Center
is for student interns to conduct critical analyses of professional
communication issues (technology, workplace and communication trends, and
other focus areas) in various fields. In
turn, the analytical projects developed by student interns contribute to the
resources here on the "Student
Projects" area of the Profcomm site, where community partners may
access them as resources in analyzing communication technology practices and
trends. Thus, Profcomm
is both a resource for the community and an instructional center.
To get started, familiarize yourself with the Writing Resources available on Profcomm, find your specific course pages, review the course assignments, and check out the Workplace learning environment where your actual classes and online meetings may be held.
