Job Application Portfolio

General Overview

Over the course of the semester, you have identified your skills, experience, and interests. You have presented that information in a variety of ways (memo of interests, professional biography). Perhaps the most common (and perhaps important) occasion for you to present this information is in a job application packet.

For this assignment, you will compile information about yourself and present the relevant information in a resume and application letter for a specific position. If you are using the Profcomm Center scenario and do not have another specific position in mind, the position you will be applying for will be a full-time analyst (see the position description). If you are applying for another position (for example, perhaps you have an internship or a position with a firm that you are actually applying for), you will supply the position description and tailor your resume and letter to that position.

For whichever position you choose to apply, for this assignment you will turn in a resume, application letter, and writing samples. Each of these elements of your packet requirements are detailed below.

Resume

See the extended resume description.

Application Letter

See the extended application letter description.

Writing Samples

If you apply for a writing intensive position, you will often be asked to submit writing samples. Job application requirements for other types of positions may require other types of portfolios (graphic designs or similar examples of your work). Because this is a writing course, you will need to submit at least three examples of your writing from the past semester. Choose your best work and revise if you feel it is necessary. Enclose a cover sheet that identifies and explains the context for the samples and why you have included them.
