Project Status Report
General Description
A status report provides the organization with which you are working with the following information:
- what you have been doing. How have you been using project resources--people, time, money, materials?
- what you still need to do to complete the project. What specific tasks are remaining? Will you complete the project according to the original schedule?
- if there are adjustments that need to be made in the project plan. If so, why do these adjustments need to be made and how do you propose to make the adjustments?
- what problems you have encountered and how you are addressing them.
The status report should refer back to the original proposal in describing your progress--show how you are meeting project goals and deadlines or why you have not been able to meet those goals and deadlines, and how you are compensating for the alteration in the project plan.
Once you have begun work on your project, you will be responsible for updating your instructor and the other group members on the progress you are making. In the status report, you should both summarize the work that you have done and explain the significance of this work--that is, how has what youve already done contributed to your progress toward you overall goal? If you are working in a group, how does the work youve done fit in with what other group members are doing?
You can also raise any concerns you have over how the project is progressing--the earlier you bring up any issues that may impact the completion of the project, the better. It is also helpful to remember that if you encounter obstacles, you should suggest some possible ways of addressing these obstacles so that you (or your group) have a beginning point for discussing any changes that need to be made to the project plan.
