What Writing Resources does Profcomm offer?

Members of Profcomm gain access to the work of The Center, an organization of students and instructors in Business and Technical Writing at the University of Arizona. Our purpose at The Center is to study the use of communications technologies and practices in professional and community settings and to examine the implications of using particular professional communication strategies.

Profcomm courses are structured as scenario-based courses in which students are considered interns of The Profcomm Center. As interns of The Profcomm Center, students gain proficiency in professional writing by turning in documents such as memos, letters, and reports according to an organizational standard. Students also write a project proposal and conduct a Center project determined by instructors and students from individual courses. At the end of the semester, the students create an “application portfolio” based on their experience as interns for The Profcomm Center.

The resources students and instructors develop contribute to the Profcomm site and become resources for other students, instructors, and organizations in the community. Profcomm currently provides a number of useful document templates and student samples developed using these templates. Student samples are clearly marked as such, and users of this site should view them as points of departure for review and critique. Profcomm also provides additional resources categorized by document type. Please follow the links in the menu at left to view sample business documents and to find answers to your professional communication questions.
