Broadly, I am interested in the psychology, law, philosophy, and public policy of wrongdoing. My primary interests are focused on the intersection of social cognitive science and criminal culpability and law. Although historically viewed as matters of philosophy, there are critical questions about human functioning (e.g., rationality, self-control, volition, affect) that go to criminal culpability and wrongdoing that are, by their nature, empirical. As such, these questions should be answered by empirical science. The study of social cognition, as investigated by clinical, developmental, and social psychologists, is fundamental to the nexus of behavioral science and criminal law. I am interested in both the basic science of the development of social cognition and antisocial behavior and how research in this area may be used to inform criminal law theory. I am currently Assistant Professor in the Psychology, Policy and Law Program in the Department of Psychology, Director of the Program in Criminal Law and Policy at the James E. Rogers College of Law, and on the Board of the Rogers Program in Law and Society.
